The Master of Arts in Band Studies program is in conjuction with the "Teaching the Middle School Band" and "Art of Teaching Music" workshops hosted by SHSU Center for Music Education. During these workshops, masters students attend clinics and complete journals where we take notes and reflect on the materials presented. These journals have already proved to be invaluble and are a great resource to look back on. Below are my three favorite journals as well as links to all my journals over my three summers.
This journal is from one of my favorite clinics I've ever attended. Lynn Jacksons method to beginner sequencing goes beyond just a checklist to complete.
Shane Goforth's years of leadership lend hand to a great clinic on creating culture, whether you mean to or not. One of my favorite lines from my masters so for is the mantra "Can is the truth and can't is a lie". So simple and poignant.
Adam Chitta gave a very detailed and toughtful presentation on how deaf students can be succesful in band. Being deaf himself, Adam spoke from experience giving feedback and suggestions in order to help teach deaf or hard of hearing students.
