Over the course of my teaching career I've had the opportunity to write and arrange a variety of different music. While I in no way would call myself a composer, I do think I've become skilled and highly competent at using music notation software (particularly Sibelius). Weather writing my own marching percussion books from scratch to adapting books to fit the needs of my students to arranging music for fun. Below you can find some examples of some of the projects I've worked on.
This is a vibraphone and marimba arrangement I made of Alicia from the video game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It was originally scored for voice, piano, and string ensemble.
This is a work in progress of a percussion ensemble medley arrangement of the music from James Band. I've been an avid 007 fan since a kid and recently decided to tackle this as a project in between marching seasons.
Brazopsort High School did a Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein show in 2018. The opener and closer was music from Appliacian Spring while the balled was music from West Side Story. The wind book was written by Peter Lengyel. At the time, we were only purchasing shows that did not have percussion, so I was responsible for writing all the percussion parts with the occasional note from the winds composer. At this point in time, Brazosport HS did not have a sound system. As such the front ensemble parts were written to primarily reinforce the winds.
Brazopsort High School did the show "Reign" by Randall D. Standridge in 2023. The original percussion was scored for Synth, Bass Guitar, Bells, Xylophone, Vibraphone, Marimba, 3 Percussion (Rack) Parts, and Battery. Adaptations include: adjusting the synth/bass guitar parts to be played on a Pearl MalletStation, added an additional Vibraphone and Marimba part, condensed the 3 rack percussion parts down to 2, extensive rewrites to all front ensemble and battery parts. Care was taken to make sure that the original integrity of the music was maintained while adapting for the ability levels of the students playing the music as well as adapting for the size of the winds present. Below you can find the score/recording for percussion to the 4th and final movement.
Brazopsort High School did the show "As Time Goes By" by Manny Maldonado in 2025. The original percussion was scored for Two Synths, Bells, Xylophone, Vibraphone, Marimba, 1 Percussion (Rack), Drumset and Battery. Adaptations include: adjusting the synth parts to be played on a Pearl MalletStation and rewrites for a student new to keyboard, added an additional Vibraphone and Marimba part, condense the rack/drumset parts to be played by one student on rack, and extensive rewrites to all front ensemble and battery parts. Care was taken to make sure that the original integrity of the music was maintained while adapting for the ability levels of the students playing the music as well as adapting for the size of the winds present. Below you can find the score/recording for percussion to the first two parts of the show.
